Wyckoff Heights Medical Center

Addition and Renovations to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center project designer with Perkins and Will

The flagship of the Preferred Health Network, the addition and renovation provides state of the art facilities to replace the existing hospital. It is an opportunity to re-establish the importance of this institution in the Bushwick community while providing necessary services and care through construction. New construction is comprised of a 5 story ambulatory service building along the street and a five story tower built above existing beds. A new elevator tower is designed as a campanile marking the location of the hospital and can be seen for miles. A small entry court with drop off is defined by a four story curved glass block wall, which along with the elevator tower, marks the entry to the building. This design composition became the new symbol for the institution and was incorporated into the client’s letterhead. An ochre colored brick, common to the area, with red brick accents, is used to support a bright and colorful façade to the community.
