Southern Maine Medical Center
Dorothy Walker Bush Pavilion project designer in association with SMRT
Addition of a new entry, lobby, support services, chapel and emergency department to an existing 1970’s era hospital commemorates the legacy of the mother of the 41st president of the United States. The addition to the front of the existing hospital will set a new patient arrival experience. The design, an interpretation of traditional New England brick Georgian expression, sets a more familiar image to the public. The interiors continue this experience, the blue and gold tones reminiscent of the traditional color themes found in the seaside homes in the area. SMMC Southern Maine Medical Center is a 150-bed, not-for-profit, full-service medical center with diagnostic & therapy centers in Saco and Kennebunk. SMMC is accredited by the Joint Commission, and is a member of the MaineHealth network and serves the greater population of the Kennebunkport Biddeford coastal region.
